The Play People - York Gardens Nursery

Nurseries where children learn through their play..

Typical Day

Each session is started with a fun and interactive carpet time where children are welcomed and we sing and talk together. This is a wonderful time for developing our communication and language and social skills with others. Children who are not yet speaking are encouraged to pick their favourite songs using pictures and we have lots of fun learning the actions together.

Our sessions also include lots of free play supporting children to explore their own interests through a variety of toys and equipment set out for them to enjoy at their own pace. We all learn best when we are interested in what we are doing,  so our caring and experienced team set up the nursery everyday based on the children's interests and fascinations and then play alongside them extending their experiences and supporting their learning through their play.

Throughout the sessions children are able to participate in a variety of teacher led activities including arts and crafts, construction, dancing, music, singing, yoga, science, cooking, big games, sport and sensory play. Over the course of a term the children develop their skills or work on a project to support their early learning and we show off their progress proudly through their learning journeys and in group discussions.

When children are ready to explore we also regularly enjoy nature walks and visits to the local park and surrounding area. During the summer term we enjoy trips slightly further afield and have visited shows, The London Aquarium, Battersea Park Zoo and other exciting places.

Reading and stories are an important part of every session and we have lots of books accessible at all times. We have a big group story towards the end of every session and for children that are not able to sit and listen yet we bring books to them in different ways. We also play lots of listening and attention games to help develop this skill which takes time and practice!

Children staying for a full day are required to bring a packed lunch from home. This can be a hot or cold meal.  A healthy snack, water and milk are provided for both morning and afternoon sessions.
