The nursery is situated in York Gardens Children Centre on Lavender Road in Clapham Junction, SW11. The purpose built premises with a lovely safe secure garden provides a bright and welcoming nursery environment that has been specifically designed to provide day care for twenty children aged from two to five years. We are open 38 weeks per year not including bank holidays from 8:30 am to 5:00pm. There is a full breakdown of term dates and fees below.

To the side of the nursery there is free car parking for visitors and parents and to the rear there is a large play area for children.

The Nursery itself consists of two rooms that are designated for the use of children. Our sunshine room opens directly onto the garden and has lots of fun and messy play and the stars room is for quieter, calmer activities. We also have a brand new kitchen where children will do lots of fun cooking.

Settling in at York Gardens

Children in both rooms benefit from ‘family groups’ which is an approach that allows children of different ages to interact together and learn from each other in small groups with their key-person, as if they were at home with a parent and other siblings.

Both rooms are well equipped with toys and resources that have been carefully selected to support and extend children’s experiences. We have very high standards at York Gardens and ensure that the nursery is always clean, safe and cosy providing a stimulating environment for your child.

We have created a nursery at York Gardens that is safe, with great resources and learning opportunities.  We have recruited staff who share our vision and who are passionate about shaping a future generation.  When recruiting staff we look for enthusiasm, creativity and imagination and parents can be assured that their child will be happy, because their interests are nurtured, and their individuality respected. We aim for children to feel safe, stimulated and happy in the nursery and to feel secure and comfortable with all staff. We also want parents to have confidence in both their children's well-being and their role as active partners.

We aim to support parents and carers to help their children settle quickly and easily by giving consideration to the individual needs and circumstances of each child and their families.

We work in partnership with parents and carers to settle children into the nursery and all children are allocated a key person shortly after they start attending the nursery. The key person welcomes and looks after the child ensuring that their care is tailored to meet their individual needs. He/she offers a secure relationship for the child and builds a relationship with his/her parents during the settling in period, and throughout his/her time at the nursery, to ensure the family has a familiar contact person to assist with the settling in process.

You can find all the information you need prior to starting the nursery on our web pages and families are encouraged to attend introductory sessions free of charge. Settling in visits and introductory sessions are key to a smooth transition and to ensure good communication and information sharing between staff and parents.

Our aim is to reassure parents whose children seem to be taking a long time settling into the nursery and encourage them, where appropriate, to separate themselves from their children for brief periods at first, gradually building up to longer absences.

We will review the nominated key person the child is bonding with another member of staff to ensure the child’s needs are supported and respect the circumstances of all families, including those who are unable to stay for long periods of time in the nursery and reassure them of their child’s progress towards settling in. Children will not be taken on an outing from the nursery until he/she is completely settled.
